Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: Scholastic Australia Pty Ltd., a Lisarow, New South Wales establishment, recalls all current batch/lots of Super Spy HQ Kids Book/Toy Combination Kits from the Australian marketplace due to suspected failure to provide required warning information for products containing non-replaceable Button Batteries and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, burns, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and/or sepsis, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Children’s Kids Book/Toy Kits are subject to this recall:

  • Super Spy HQ Kids Book/Toy Combination Kits, sold with a ISBN of 9 781760 266134 and includes the following items:
    • Spy Manual
    • Mirrored Spy Glasses
    • A UV Pen
    • A Code Wheel

Logo - Big W==> No barcodes, APNs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Children’s Kids Book/Toy Kits were known to be marketed, distributed and sold from Big W stores in all Australian states, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Logo - Australian Competition & Consumer Commission ("ACCC")According to the ACCC, Scholastic Australia has recalled all current batch/lots of Super Spy HQ Kids Book/Toy Combination Kits from the Australian marketplace due to suspected failure to provide warning information required for products containing non-replaceable Button Batteries. As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should not let your child play with or play with the Book/Toy products identified above.

In this case, this recall was initiated after it was reported that the Children’s Kids Book/Toy Kits were sold without the warning information required for products containing non-replaceable Button Batteries. Due to this defect, there is a risk of choking, severe internal burn injuries or death to young children if they gain access to the Button Batteries and ingest them. Parents and other caregivers may be unaware that the product contains a Button Battery.

Logo - Scholastic BooksIn general, if glass, plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Scholastic Super Spy HQ Kids Book/Toy Combination Kits, please do not let your child play with or near them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund. Parents and other caregivers who are unable to return the product themselves may contact Scholastic at 02 4328 3555 from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday to Friday to arrange for its return.
