Canada FlagCanada/Ottawa: Mountain Valley Dairy Ltd., doing business as Kootenay Meadows, a Creston, British Columbia establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Kootenay Meadows branded Nostrala Firm Surface-Ripened Organic Cheese from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Escherichia Coli (“E. Coli”) contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Dairy products are subject to this recall:

  • Kootenay Meadows branded Nostrala Firm Surface-Ripened Organic Cheese, sold in variable sizes with a batch/lot code of 240123 and a UPC that begins with 8 75091

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation.

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Firm Surface-Ripened Organic Cheese products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian province of Alberta, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Logo - Canadian Food Inspection Agency ("CFIA")According to the CFIA, Mountain Valley Dairy Ltd. has recalled certain batch/lots of Kootenay Meadows branded Nostrala Firm Surface-Ripened Organic Cheese from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Escherichia Coli (“E. Coli”) contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Dairy products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Kootenay Meadows branded Nostrala Firm Surface-Ripened Organic Cheese, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Escherichia Coli (“E. Coli”).
