Vehicle Recall: Bentley Motors Bentayga Sedans

Washington, DC: As of Saturday, November 12, 2022, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”), a division of the US Department of Transportation, posted a total of ninety-two (92) vehicle, tire, accessory or other automotive-related product recalls this past month. Among the ninety-two (92) recalls the NHTSA announced in October came news of the following:

Bentley Motors, Inc. (“Bentley”), a Herndon, Virginia establishment and subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group of Wolfsburg, Germany, has recalled an estimated 3,134 model year 2021-2022 Bentley Bentayga Sedans marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Back Over Prevention – Blank Rearview Camera Image in apparent contravention of US FMVSS 111

NHTSA Safety Notification 22V743000 reports due to a software error, the Rearview Camera Image may be blank when the car is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, “Rear Visibility”.

According to the NHTSA, a Rearview Camera Screen that displays a blank image reduces the driver’s view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Bentley Dealers will update the Infotainment Unit Software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 2, 2022. Owners may contact Bentley Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-877-6923 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) for more information. Bentley’s designation for this recall is RE22/29 (RC54).
