Among the forty-five (45) recalls the NHTSA announced this month comes news of the following:

Logo - Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (“Volkswagen”), an Auburn Hills, Michigan establishment and subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group of Wolfsburg, Germany, has recalled an estimated 74,067 model year 2021-2023 Audi Q5 Sportback, Q5, 2022-2023 Volkswagen Atlas FL, and Atlas Cross Sport Sport Utility Vehicles (“SUVs”) marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Engine and Engine Cooling – Damaged Connecting Rod Bearings

NHTSA Safety Notification 22V753000 reports the Engine Connecting Rod Bearings may become damaged, which can result in Engine failure.

According to the NHTSA, a damaged Engine can result in Engine failure and a stall, increasing the risk of a crash. If the Engine failure causes an oil leak, this can (in rare cases) increase the risk of a fire, explosion, burns and/or smoke inhalation with consequential life-changing or life-ending results.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Volkswagen Dealers will replace will inspect and, if necessary, replace an affected Engine, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 6, 2022. Owners may contact Volkswagen’s Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-893-5298 and Audi’s Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-253-2834 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) for more information. Volkswagen’s designations for this recall are 13i4 (VW vehicles) and 13i5 (Audi vehicles).
