Logo - United States Department of Agriculture ("USDA")According to the USDA, it has issued a public heath warning against the consumption of several Not-Ready-To-Eat Clark Farms, Farmstead & Southwinds Cattle branded Pork and Beef Bacon products due to Sodium Nitrite levels in excess of US Regulatory Limits. As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should neither serve nor consume the Pork products identified above.

These Pork products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold from farmers markets and farm stores in Kentucky and Tennessee as well as direct-to-consumer sales, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country.

The other Pork items sold by various weight were purchased from the retail counter at Farmstead Butcher Block and still other products were produced under a custom exemption and do not bear the USDA mark of inspection. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the subject Clark Farms, Farmstead & Southwinds Cattle branded Pork and Beef Bacon products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

The problem was discovered by FSIS while performing routine inspection activities. FSIS discovered that the establishment’s formulation of sodium nitrite, a restricted ingredient, exceeded the regulatory limit.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.
