Product Recall: Esse Wood Fire Stoves

Australia/Canberra: Esse Engineering Ltd., represented by Pivot Stoves and Heating, a Geelong, Victoria establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Esse Wood Fire Stoves from the Australian marketplace due to suspected component detachment with consequential risks of burns, scalds, smoke inhalation, respiratory failure and/or cardiac system collapse, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Wood Stoves are subject to this recall:

• Esse Wood Fire Stoves, consisting of standalone wood fired cooking stoves sold in the following model/styles:
  • Warmheart
  • Bakeheart
  • 990 Wood
  • 990 Hybrid
  • 1000 Wood

==> No barcodes, APNs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Esse Wood Fire Stoves were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Australian states of New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country including over the Web. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the ACCC, Esse Engineering has recalled certain batch/lots of Esse Wood Fire Stoves from the Australian marketplace due to suspected component detachment with consequential risks of burns, scalds, smoke inhalation, respiratory failure and/or cardiac system collapse.

As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should not use any of the recalled Wood Stoves identified above as they may pose health and safety risks to people who utilize the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Esse Wood Fire Stoves, please do not use them. Instead, kindly contact Esse through its Australian distributor to arrange free replacement of the Backplate component of the Wood Stove.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 0-0-0, your closest hospital or emergency centre equipped to properly treat burns, scalds, explosive blast injury, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory and/or cardiac injury.
