Food Recall: Fromages Latino Rumba & Sabana Cheeses

Canada FlagCanada/Ottawa: Les Fromages Latino Inc., a Val-des-Sources, Québec establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Rumba, Sabana and Sombrero branded Cheeses from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Staphylococcus aureus contamination and consequential risks of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Dairy products are subject to this recall:

  • Rumba branded Queso Campesino Country Cheese, sold in 200 gram packages with a batch/lot of CA140524, a packed-on date code of 24/MA/17 and a best-before date code of 24/JL/16
  • Rumba branded Asadero Mexican Style Cheese, sold in 200 gram packages with a batch/lot of CA140524, a packed-on date code of 24/MA/17, a best-before date code of 24/JL/16 and a UPC of 8 91911 00125 1
  • Logo - Rumba branded CheeseRumba branded Queso Fresco Cheese, sold in 400 gram packages with a batch/lot of QF140524, a packed-on date of 24/MA/15, a best-before date code of 2024/JL/14 and a UPC of 8 91911 00125 1
  • Rumba branded Campesino Cheese, sold in 6 kilogram packages with a batch/lot of CA140524, a packed-on date code of 24/MA/17 and a best-before date code of 2024/JL/16
  • Rumba branded Asadero Cheese, sold in six (6) kilogram packages with a batch/lot of CA140524, a packed-on date code of 24/MA/17 and a best-before date code of 2024/JL/16
  • Rumba branded Sabana Cheese, sold in six (6) kilogram packages with a batch/lot of CA140524, a packed-on date code of 24/MA/17 and a best-before date code of 2024/JL/16
  • Sabana branded Queso Fresco Grilling Cheese, sold in 200 gram packages with a batch/lot of CAE140524, a packed-on date code of 2024/MA/16 and a best-before date code of 2024/AU/14 and a UPC of 627 843 776 413
  • Sombrero branded Asadero Grilling Cheese, sold in 200 gram packages with a batch/lot of CA140524, a packed-on date code of 24/MA/17 and a best-before date code of 24/JL/16 and a UPC of 628204378260

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Rumba, Sabana and Sombrero branded Cheeses were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Logo - Canadian Food Inspection Agency ("CFIA")According to the CFIA, Les Fromages Latino Inc. has recalled certain batch/lots of Rumba, Sabana and Sombrero branded Cheeses from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Staphylococcus aureus poisoning. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Dairy products identified above.

==> For information about Staphylococcus aureus poisoning, please consult the “Illnesses” tab on this site, located at the top of this page.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Rumba, Sabana or Sombrero branded Cheeses, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Staphylococcus aureus.
