US FlagUS/Silver Spring: FGF Brands Inc., a Toronto, Ontario establishment, recalls an estimated 11,830 cases of Aldi Bake Shop Bakery branded Chocolate Chip Muffins from the American marketplace due to suspected mislabeling and consequential undeclared Walnuts, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Chocolate Chip Muffins are subject to this recall:

  • ALDI Bakeshop Chocolate Chip Muffins, sold in four (4)-pack plastic clamshell containers with a batch/lot designation of NF1 142Y and a UPC of 4099100048278

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These ALDI Bakeshop Chocolate Chip Muffins were known to be marketed, distributed and sold from ALDI retail stores in all US states, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country including over the Web. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Baked Goods identified above.

In this case, this recall was initiated after it was discovered that the Walnut-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of Walnut.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled ALDI Bakeshop Chocolate Chip Muffins and could be allergic to their Walnut ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat Anaphylaxis.
