Vehicle Recall: Hyundai Elantra Sedans

Canada/Ottawa: Transport Canada, an Ottawa, Ontario regulatory and safety authority, recalls an estimated 36,408 model year 2015 and 2016 Hyundai Elantra Sedans marketed, sold and delivered in Canada.

On certain Hyundai vehicles, a part in the Trunk Release Latch could fail. If this happens, the Emergency Trunk Release located inside the Trunk may not work properly.

As a result, if a person is closed inside the Trunk Compartment, they may not be able to get out. This could create a risk of injury with life-ending results including death.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat burns, scalds, explosive blast injury, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory and/or cardiac injury.

==> No VINs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

Proposed Remedy:
Hyundai Canada will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to an Authorized Dealership replace the Trunk Latch Assembly.
