Vehicle Recall: Ford Expedition & Lincoln Navigator SUVs

US/Washington: As of Thursday, February 29, 2024, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”), a division of the US Department of Transportation, has posted a total of one-hundred-and-five (105) vehicle, tire, accessory or other automotive-related product recalls this month. Among the one-hundred-and-five (105) recalls the NHTSA announced in February comes news of the following:

Ford Motor Company (“Ford”), a Dearborn, Michigan establishment, has recalled an estimated 77,574 model year 2018-2020 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator Sport Utility Vehicles (“SUVs”) marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Seat Belts – Seat Belt may lock and fail to retract or extend

NHTSA Safety Notification 24V099000 reports the Seat Belt Pretensioner in the driver and/or front Passenger Seat may inadvertently deploy and lock the Seat Belt. If this defect occurs, it will not allow the Belt to retract or extend.

According to the NHTSA, Seat Belts that do not retract or extend may fail to restrain an occupant as intended, increasing the risk of consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results in the event of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Ford Dealers will will inspect and replace the vehicles’ Seat Belts Retractors, as necessary. Additionally, Dealers will install an HVAC Drain Tube Elbow if it is missing. Repairs will be performed free of charge.

Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk are expected to be mailed March 4, 2024. A second notice will be sent once remedy parts become available, anticipated second half of 2024.
