Food Recall: Benny T’s Vesta Dry Hot Sauce

US/Silver Spring: Vesta Fiery Gourmet Foods, Inc., a Raleigh, North Carolina establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Benny T’s Vesta Dry Hot Sauce products from the American marketplace due to suspected mislabeling and consequential undeclared Wheat Flour, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following prepared Sauces are subject to this recall:

• Benny T’s Vesta Sauce – Ghost, sold in 1.5 ounce glass bottles with a use-by date code up to and including 12/01/2024 and a UPC of 7 94571 99498 0
• Benny T’s Vesta Sauce – Hot, sold in 1.5 ounce glass bottles with a use-by date code up to and including 12/01/2024 and a UPC of 7 94571 99497 3
• Benny T’s Vesta Sauce – Reaper, sold in 1.5 ounce glass bottles with a use-by date code up to and including 12/01/2024 and a UPC of 7 94571 99490 4
• Benny T’s Vesta Sauce – Scorpion, sold in 1.5 ounce glass bottles with a use-by date code up to and including 12/01/2024 and a UPC of 7 94571 99491 1
• Benny T’s Vesta Sauce – Very Hot, sold in 1.5 ounce glass bottles with a use-by date code up to and including 12/01/2024 and a UPC of 7 94571 99499 7

The affected lot numbers and expiration dates are: FX001500 (expiration date 09/2024) and FX001582 (expiration date 09/2024) NDC 0078-0110-22. These lots were known to have been distributed US nationwide to wholesalers beginning in January 2022 and September 2022, respectively.

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Benny T’s Vesta Dry Hot Sauce were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in all US states, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the FDA,Vesta Fiery Gourmet Foods has recalled certain batch/lots of Benny T’s Vesta Dry Hot Sauce products from the American marketplace due to suspected mislabeling and consequential undeclared Wheat Flour. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Sauces identified above.

In this case, this recall was initiated after the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services notified the company that the product label does not state the Flour used in this Sauce product is a Wheat Flour.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Benny T’s Vesta Dry Hot Sauce products and could be allergic to their Wheat Flour ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat Anaphylaxis.
