Vehicle Recall: Subaru Crosstrek, Legacy & Outback

Canada/Ottawa: Transport Canada, an Ottawa, Ontario regulatory and safety authority, recalls an estimated 12,839 model year 2021 to 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Sport Utility Vehicles (“SUVs”), Subaru Legacy Sedans and Subaru Outback SUVs marketed, sold and delivered in Canada.

On the affected Subaru SUVs and Sedans, water could enter the vehicle’s Inhibitor Switch and cause the electronic device to fail while in-use.

As a result of this defect, the Backup Lamps may not turn on and the Rearview Camera Image may not display when backing up.

Backup Lamps that don’t work could cause other drivers not to know and/or recognize when a vehicle is backing up. Additionally, a Rearview Camera image that doesn’t display could reduce a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. These defects could increase the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event, increasing the risk of consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage, internal injuries burns, scalds, explosive blast injury, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory and/or cardiac injury.

==> No VINs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

Proposed Remedy:
Subaru Canada will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to an authorized dealership to replace the affected vehicle’s Inhibitor Switch.
