Food Recall: Misteak Plant Based Vegan Steaks

Canada/Ottawa: Urbani Foods Inc., a Vancouver, British Columbia establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Misteak branded Plant Based Vegan Steaks from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected mislabeling and consequential undeclared Egg, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious health and safety hazard requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Vegetarian Meat products are subject to this recall:

• Misteak branded Plant Based Vegan Steaks, sold in 200 gram packages with a best-before date code of AUG.20.2024 and a UPC of 8 51335 00020 9

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. Additional images of the recalled Vegetarian Meat products can be found on the Web site above.

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Misteak branded Plant Based Vegan Steaks, were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, Urbani Foods Inc. has recalled certain batch/lots of Misteak branded Plant Based Vegan Steaks from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected mislabeling and consequential undeclared Egg. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Vegetarian Meat products identified above.

In this case, this recall was initiated by Canadian Food Inspection Agency test results.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Misteak branded Plant Based Vegan Steaks and could be allergic to their Egg ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat Anaphylaxis.
