Food Recall: Nissui Frozen Baked Wheat Cakes

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Baked Wheat Cakes are subject to this recall:

  • Nissui branded Frozen Baked Wheat Cakes with Octopus, sold in 400 gram packages; affected batch/lots: all codes where Pollock Fish is not declared on the label with a UPC of 0 74410 91914 6
  • Nissui branded Frozen Baked Wheat Cakes with Octopus, sold in one (1) kilogram packages; affected batch/lots: all codes where Pollock Fish is not declared on the label with a UPC of 0 74410 91922 1

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Nissui branded Frozen Baked Wheat Cake products may have been marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country.

Logo - Canadian Food Inspection Agency ("CFIA")According to Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”), Wismettac Asian Foods has recalled certain batch/lots of Nissui Frozen Baked Wheat Cakes with Octopus from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected mislabeling and consequential undeclared Pollock Fish.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the product containing Pollack Fish was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of Fish.

As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Wheat Cakes identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Nissui branded Frozen Baked Wheat Cakes with Octopus and could be allergic to their Pollack Fish ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat Anaphylaxis.
