Food Recall: Fresh Start, GFS & Markon Fresh Fruit Mixes

Canada FlagCanada/Ottawa: Fresh Start Foods, a Milton, Ontario establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Fresh Start Food, GFS and Ready-Set-Serve by Markon branded Fresh Fruit products that contain Cantaloupe from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Cantaloupe products are subject to this recall:

  • Fresh Start Foods Salad – Fruit Deluxe 3/4 UTSOKT (Fruit Salad UTSOKT), sold in 10.9 kilogram bulk containers; affected batch/lots: all best-by date codes up to and including 23-NO-24 and a UPC of 6 20868 20452 7
  • GFS Salad – Fruit Rio Citrus (Rio Citrus Salad), sold in 3.6 kg (~ 8-pound) bulk containers; affected batch/lots: all best-by date codes up to and including 23-NO-20 and a UPC of 6 20868 10769 6
  • Fresh Start Foods Cantaloupe – Spears 2.72 kilogram (~ 6 pound) bulk containers; affected batch/lots: all best-by date codes up to and including 23-NO-09 and a UPC of 6 20868 45176 1
  • Fresh Start Foods Cantaloupes, sold in 9 count cases; affected batch/lot: 1463423 with a Julian date code of 299, 300, 301, 303, 304, 305 or 306 and a UPC of 6 20868 21817 3
  • Fresh Start Foods Cantaloupes 9/12 Size, sold in 5/6 count cases; affected batch/lot: 1196082 with a Julian date code of 299, 300, 301, 303, 304, 305 or 306 and a UPC of 6 20868 13994 2
  • Ready-Set-Serve by Markon Pineapple Chunks 1/32 pound MKN (Fresh Cut Pineapple Chunks), sold in 14.5 kilogram bulk containers; affected batch/lot: all best-by dates up to and including 23-NO-23 and a UPC of 6 11628 91394 0
  • Rudy Cantaloupes, sold in 35-pound bulk containers, sold with a PLU of 4050, a country of origin designation of Product of Mexico

==> No best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Fresh Start Food, GFS and Ready-Set-Serve by Markon branded Fresh Fruit products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces and territories of Alberta, British Columbia and Manitoba, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Logo - Canadian Food Inspection Agency ("CFIA")According to the CFIA, Fresh Start Foods has recalled certain batch/lots of Fresh Start Food, GFS and Ready-Set-Serve by Markon branded Fresh Fruit products from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Fruit products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Fresh Start Food, GFS and Ready-Set-Serve by Markon branded Fresh Fruit products that contain Cantaloupe products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Salmonellosis.
