Among the eighty-two (82) recalls the NHTSA announced in October came news of the following:

Mazda North American Operation (“Mazda”), an Irvine, California establishment and a subsidiary of Mazda Motor Corporation of Hiroshima, Japan, has recalled an estimated 4,252 model year 2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-In Hybrid Electric (“PHEV”) Sport Utility Vehicles (“SUVs”) marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Power Train – Engine & Electric Motor may shut down unexpectedly

NHTSA Safety Notification 23V719000 reports due to a Software error, the Engine and Electric Motor may shut down unexpectedly. If this defect occurs, it can result in a loss of drive power.

According to the NHTSA, a loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Mazda Dealers will update the Powertrain Control Module and Engine Control Module Software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 22, 2023.

Owners may contact Mazda Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-222-5500, option 6 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) for more information. Mazda’s designation for this recall is 6323J.
