Canada/Ottawa: FTG Foods Canada Ltd., a Calgary, Alberta establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Viva branded Kikiam Sticks – Seafood Sticks and unbranded Kikiam Sticks from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected mislabeling and consequential undeclared Egg, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious health and safety hazard requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Seafood Snacks are subject to this recall:

  • Kikiam Sticks, sold in ~1 kilogram packages with a batch/lot designation of 02230523 and a best-before date of 2025 May 23
  • Viva branded Kikiam Sticks – Seafood Sticks, sold in 300 gram packages with a batch/lot designation of of232843, a best-before date of 25 FE 03 (i.e., February 03, 2025) and a UPC of 6 91835 06615 8

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Kikiam Seafood Snacks were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Ontario, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Seafood products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Viva branded Kikiam Sticks – Seafood Sticks and/or unbranded Kikiam Sticks and could be allergic to their Egg ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat Anaphylaxis.
