(“DCT”), a Houston, Texas establishment, recalls an estimated total 62,402 Amana branded Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps (approximately 62,100 in the US and approximately 302 in Canada) from the American and Canadian marketplaces due to reported overheating with consequential risks of burns, scalds, smoke inhalation, respiratory failure and/or cardiac system collapse, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves Amana branded Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps (“PTACs”) assembled with “DigiAir” modules, as follows:

  • Amana-branded Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps (“PTACs”) assembled with “DigiAir” modules. The DigiAir Modules are factory-installed make-up Air Systems with configurable dehumidification. The recalled units are beige and have a model number that begins with PMH or PMC. The brand, “Amana” can be found printed on the unit’s Control Cover and the model number is on the label located below the Control Board.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

If this defect occurs, it poses consequential risks of burns, scalds, smoke inhalation, respiratory failure and/or cardiac system collapse or otherwise adversely affect the health and safely of people who utilize the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use.

In this case, this recall was initiated after Daikin Comfort Technologies has received fifty-two (52) reports of incidents with the “DigiAir” compressor, including 10 that resulted in fires. No injuries have been reported.

Please note: this is a joint recall from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) and Health Canada (“HCSC”).

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Amana-branded Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps (“PTACs”), please do not use it until the DigiAir compressor in the recalled PTAC unit has been disabled by following instructions to disable it available here: https://view.officeapps.live.com/op/view.aspx?src=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amana-ptac.com%2Fdocs%2Fdefault-source%2Fdownloads%2Fhomeowner-communication-3-19-23.doc&wdOrigin=BROWSELINK.

Contact Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing, L.P. (“DCT”) for instructions on disabling the DigiAir compressor in the recalled PTACs and to arrange for the free repair of the unit by a qualified technician. Daikin Comfort Technologies is contacting all known purchasers directly.
