Vehicle Recall: Rivian R1T, R1S & EDVs

Among the ninety-two (92) recalls the NHTSA announced in October came news of the following:

Rivian Automotive, LLC (“Rivian”), a Plymouth, Michigan establishment, has recalled an estimated 12,212 model year 2022 Rivian R1T, Rivian R1S and Rivian EDV Electric Vehicles marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Suspension, Steering – Steering Knuckle and Control Arm may separate

NHTSA Safety Notification 22V744000 reports the Fastener connecting the Front Upper Control Arm and Steering Knuckle may have been improperly tightened.

According to the NHTSA, a loose Steering Knuckle Fastener could separate, causing a loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Rivian Dealers will inspect and, as necessary, tighten the Steering Knuckle Fastener, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 24, 2022. Owners may contact Rivian Customer Service toll-free at 1-888-748-4261 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) for more information. Rivian’s designation for this recall is FSAM 997.
