Vehicle Recall: Volkswagen Atlas SUVs

Among the ninety-eight (98) recalls the NHTSA announced in June comes news of the following:

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (“Volkswagen”), an Auburn Hills, Michigan establishment and subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group of Wolfsburg, Germany, has recalled an estimated 271,330 model year 2021-2024 Volkswagen Atlas and 2020-2024 Atlas Cross Sport Utility Vehicles (“SUVs”) marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Air Bags – Front Passenger Air Bag may not deploy

NHTSA Safety Notification 24V464000 reports the Passenger Occupant Detection System (“PODS”) may experience a fault in the wiring and deactivate the Front Passenger Air Bag when the seat is occupied.

According to the NHTSA, a deactivated Passenger Air Bag increases the risk of injury during a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Volkswagen Dealers will replace the PODS Sensor Mat and Wiring Harness, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 16, 2024.
