Canada/Ottawa: European Distributions Canada Inc. also known as Distributions Europeennes Canada Inc. (“DECI”), a Saint-Léonard, Quebec establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Balocco branded Ciambelle Biscuits from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected plastic fragment contamination and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction/perforation and sepsis, all serious health and safety hazards, requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Baked Goods are subject to this recall:

  • Balocco branded Ciambelle Biscuits – Cream and Eggs flavour, sold in 350 gram beige, red and blue stand-up bags with a best-before date code of 31 01 25, a batch/lot of L 40125H and a UPC of 8 001100 011875

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Balocco branded Ciambelle Biscuits were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian province of Quebec, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country including over the Web. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Baked Goods identified above.

In general, if glass, plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.
