Vehicle Recall: Kia Telluride SUVs

US/Washington: As of Thursday, March 28, 2024, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”), a division of the US Department of Transportation, has posted a total of eighty-five (85) vehicle, tire, accessory or other automotive-related product recalls this month. Among the eighty-five (85) recalls the NHTSA announced in March comes news of the following notification:

Kia Motors America (“Kia”), an Irvine, California establishment and a subsidiary of Kia Motors Corporation of Seoul, South Korea, has recalled an estimated 427,407 model year 2020-2024 Kia Telluride Sport Utility Vehicles (“SUVs”) marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Power Train – Vehicle Roll Away from disengaged Driveshaft

NHTSA Safety Notification 24V214000 reports the Intermediate Shaft and Right Front Driveshaft may not be fully engaged. If this defect occurs, it can result in vehicle roll away while in PARK.

According to the NHTSA a vehicle roll away increases the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Kia Dealers will update the Electronic Parking Brake Software and replace any damaged Intermediate Shafts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 15, 2024. Owners may contact Kia Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-333-4542 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) for more information. Kia’s designation for this recall is SC303.

Owners are advised to manually engage the Emergency Parking Brake prior to exiting your Kia vehicle until the recall remedy is performed.
