Canada/Ottawa: Walmart Canada Corp., a Mississauga, Ontario establishment, and subsidiary of Walmart Inc., a Bentonville, Arkansas establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Sitara branded Brown Lentils from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected mislabeling and consequential risks of undeclared Wheat, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious health and safety hazard requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Legume products are subject to this recall:

  • Sitara Brown Lentils, sold in 1.81 kilogram clear plastic bags; affected batch/lots: all codes where Wheat is not declared on the label with a UPC of 6 28915 56114 2

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Lentil products can be found on the Web site above.

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Sitara Brown Lentils were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country including over the Web. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Lentils identified above.

In this case, this recall was initiated after one (1) consumer complaint in which a reaction associated with the consumption of this product was reported.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Sitara branded Brown Lentils and could be allergic to their Wheat ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat Anaphylaxis.
