About Plastic Fragment Hazards:
Ingested plastic fragments pose a serious risk of injury or death due to perforation or blockage of the gastrointestinal (“GI”) tract. Plastic fragments are typically introduced into food, drinks or drugs by a mechanical fault in the manufacturing process causing packaging pieces to break off, careless food preparation at the distribution or retail level or by intentional sabotage somewhere in the food chain.

Plastic fragments that enter the GI tract often need surgical intervention to remove them as sharp edges and irregular shapes preclude them from passage out of the body in a safe manner.
