Nexus.20 Triple Sleeper Bunk Bed Recall [Australia]

Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: Le Cornu Furniture Centre recalls some Nexus.20 Triple Sleeper Bunk Beds due to fall, strangulation hazards. ACCC: http://ht.ly/kTcVF

Direct link: http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/1047564

Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the recalled Bunk Beds do not comply with mandatory safety standard for bunk beds, AS/NZS 4220:1994. The standard requires that:

  • protrusions do not not exceed 8mm;
  • the vertical distance between the guard rail and label indicating the maximum height of the mattress must be at least 160mm; and
  • the country of origin and the Australian distributor’s name and address be permanently and indelibly marked.

According to the ACCC, there is a potential strangulation hazard if the child’s clothes get caught on the upright corner post protrusions. In addition, the inaccurate label positioning may lead to an incorrect size mattress being used on the top bunk. As a result, a child can roll over the guard rail and suffer fall-related injuries.
