Recommended Action:
CFIA advises consumers who are unsure if they have the affected beef in their home to check with the store(s) where the product was purchased or throw it out. There have been four known E. coli O157 illnesses associated with the consumption of beef products originating from XL Foods Inc. (Establishment # 38).

About E. coli enteritis:
E. Coli 0157:H7 poisoning is typically transmitted using the fecal-mouth route by eating or drinking foods or beverages contaminated with E. Coli O157:H7, eating unpasteurized (i.e., raw) milk and (raw) milk products and untreated water. Common symptoms of E. Coli 0157:H7 poisoning include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (often bloody), vomiting, nausea and headache. Learn more about Escherichia coli O157:H7 bacteria (“E. Coli O157:H7”) poisoning from Health Canada: http://ht.ly/dMvCT.
