The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) reports this E. coli O157:H7 outbreak appears to have begun in October with cases reported from October 8, 2018 to December 13, 2018. As of January 9, 2019, this outbreak appears to be over.

CDC Issues Romaine Lettuce Warning [US]

US FlagUS/Atlanta: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ("CDC") LogoThe US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”), an Atlanta, Georgia based health promotion and disease prevention authority, warns consumers, restaurants and retailers not to eat, serve or sell any Romaine Lettuce products as it investigates an outbreak of Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7 infections linked to Romaine.

This warning comes after at least thirty-two (32) illnesses have been reported from eleven (11) states, including thirteen (13) people who have been hospitalized. One person developed Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (“HUS”), a type of kidney failure. No deaths have been reported.
