Product Recall: Texas Instruments TI-30X Plus Calculators

Australia/Canberra: Officeworks Limited, a Sydney, New South Wales establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Texas Instruments TI-30X Plus Scientific Calculators from the Australian marketplace due to the reported failure to provide the required warning information concerning so-called “Button” Batteries and consequential risks of choking, laceration, burns, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and/or sepsis, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-changing injury.

Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Scientific Calculators are subject to this recall:

• Texas Instruments TI-30X Plus Scientific Calculators, consisting of black portable, battery-powered scientific calculators with digital screens with an Officeworks SKU of TI2928381
  

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the ACCC, Officeworks Limited has recalled certain batch/lots of Texas Instruments TI-30X Plus Scientific Calculators from the Australian marketplace due to failure to provide the required warning label concerning so-called Button or Coin Batteries.

Due to this reported defect, small objects could find their way into a young child’s throat and pose choking and/or suffocation hazards and, if placed in the mouth and/or swallowed, pose serious risks of choking, burns, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and death.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Texas Instruments TI-30X Plus Scientific Calculators, please do not use them nor let your children play with or near them. Instead, kindly return the recalled Calculators to the store where you purchased them for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 0-0-0, your closest hospital or emergency centre equipped to properly treat choking, laceration, burns, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and/or sepsis.
