Product Recall: Sunbeam Queen Size Electric Blankets

US/Bethesda & Canada/Ottawa: Star Elite, a Montreal, Quebec establishment recalls an estimated total 61,221 Sunbeam branded Queen Size Electric Heated Blankets (approximately 43,000 in the US and approximately 18,221 in Canada) from the American and Canadian marketplaces due to suspected overheating hazards and consequential risks of burns, scalds, smoke inhalation, respiratory failure and/or cardiac system collapse, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports involves certain Electric Blankets, as follows:

• Sunbeam branded Queen Size Heated Blankets, sold with a model number of 32810027 with detachable controllers and in the following colors: beige, ivory, light green, dark blue, light blue, burgundy, dark gray, light gray and gray violet. The Sunbeam logo and the model number can be found printed on the wash label affixed to the blanket.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the product’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Electric Blankets can be found on the Web site above.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, Star Elite, a Montreal, Quebec establishment has recalled an estimated total 61,221 Sunbeam branded Queen Size Electric Blankets due to suspected overheating hazards to the health of people who utilize the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use.

In this case, the firm has received thirteen (13) reports of the blankets overheating. As of press time, no injuries had been reported.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Sunbeam branded Queen Size Electric Blankets, please do not use them or treat them. Instead, unplug the recalled blankets and contact Star Elite for a full refund.

You will be asked to complete the online recall Registration Form available at http://www.productrecall.sunbeamhome.com and to destroy the Blanket by cutting the power cord at the Plug, marking an “X” with permanent marker on the wash label and sending the recalling firm a photo of the destroyed Blanket.
