Canada FlagCanada/Ottawa: Le Formage au Village Inc., a Lorrainville, Quebec establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of four (4) different Surface-ripened Soft and Semi-soft Cheeses from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination and consequential risks of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Dairy Products are subject to this recall:

  • La Vache à Maillotte branded Mélo-Dieux – Surface-Ripened Soft Cheese, sold in ~ 275 gram packages with a batch/lot code of R594, R602 or R613
  • Le Fromage au Village branded Angelus – Soft Surface Ripened Cheese, sold in ~200 gram packages with a batch/lot code of R603, R604, R607, R611 R614, R617, R619 or R622 and a UPC of 6 73536 02012 7
  • Le Fromage au Village branded Le Casimir – Soft Surface Ripened Cheese, sold in ~ 200 gram packages with a batch/lot code of R608
  • Le Fromage au Village branded Le Cendré de Notre-Dame – Semi-Soft Surface-Ripened Cheese, sold in ~ 150 gram packages with a batch/lot code of R605, R606, R610, R612, R618, R621 or R623

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Cheese Products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Dairy Products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Surface-ripened Soft and Semi-soft Cheese products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Listeriosis.
