Among the seventeen (17) recalls the NHTSA has announced in January comes news of the following:
Indian Motorcycle Company (“Indian”), a Springfield, Massachusetts establishment and a division of Polaris Industries, has recalled an estimated 4,653 model year 2022 Chief, Chief Bobber, Chief Bobber Darkhorse, Chief Darkhorse, Super Chief, and Super Chief Limited Motorcycles marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.
Recall Category: Structure – Kickstand may not retract properly in apparent contravention of US FMVSS 123
NHTSA Safety Notification 22V957000 reports the recalled Motorcycles’ Kickstand may not properly retract upon ground contact when left extended while riding. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 123, “Motorcycle Controls and Displays”.
According to the NHTSA, a Kickstand that does not properly retract can increase \he risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

Proposed Remedy:
The remedy for this reported defect is currently under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 17, 2023. Owners may contact Indian Motorcycle Customer Service toll-free at 1-877-204-3697 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) for more information. Indian’s number for this recall is I-23-01.
