Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: IKEA Pty Limited, a Tempe, New South Wales establishment and a subsidiary of Netherlands-based furnishings manufacturer, INGKA Holdings BV, recalls certain batch/lots of IKEA ODGER Swivel Chairs from the Australian marketplace due to suspected structural failure and component detachment hazards with consequential risks of falls, laceration, concussion, bone fractures and/or central nervous system (“CNS”) injury, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Swivel Chairs are subject to this recall:

  • ODGER Swivel Chairs sold in the anthracite (i.e., black) colour with an IKEA article number of 703.952.63. The Chair consists of a bowl-shaped seat and rounded backrest with adjustable height and swivel and a star-shaped support base. The white version of ODGER Swivel Chair is not currently included in this recall.

==> No barcodes, APNs, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These ODGER Swivel Chairs were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in IKEA Stores in all Australian states although it is always possible these furniture products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

If these defect occur, they pose risks to the safety of people who utilize the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use.

You should immediately stop using the Anthracite (black) coloured ODGER Swivel Chair with date stamps before and including 2221 (yyww) and return it to any IKEA store for a full refund. Proof of purchase (i.e., a receipt) is not required.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled IKEA ODGER Swivel Chairs, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
