Additional information:
Among the fifteen (15) recalls the NHTSA has announced in January comes news of the following:
Warn Industries Inc. (“Warn”), a Clackamas, Oregon establishment, has recalled an estimated 121,187 Wireless/Handheld Remote Control Devices sold with certain Warn branded VR EVO 8, VR EVO 8-S, VR EVO 10, VR EVO 10-S, VR EVO 12 and VR EVO 12-S Accessory Winches and Remote Service Parts marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.
Recall Category: Electrical System, Equipment – Corrosion on Remote Control Circuit Board
NHTSA Safety Notification 22E101000 reports water may enter the handheld remote control for the winch and cause circuit board corrosion, which can allow the winch to operate unintentionally. Please see the rNHTSA recall report for a list of all affected winch part numbers.
According to the NHTSA, a Winch that operates unintentionally increases consequential risks of serious injury and/or life-changing results.
==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Proposed Remedy:
As an interim action, WARN will provide owners with instructions to inspect the remote for corrosion and disable the wireless function by removing the Battery Pack from the Remote. If corrosion or water intrusion is found when removing the Battery Pack, Owners should stop using the Remote and contact WARN Customer Service for a replacement remote free of charge.
Once parts are available, WARN will make a replacement water resistant Remote available to affected customers, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact WARN Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-543-9276. No manufacturer’s designation was listed for this recall at press time.
Because these Winches and their Remote Control Devices may be OEM parts on your vehicle, you may not be aware your vehicle has been equipped with one. When in doubt, please consult your Owners Manual, your authorized Dealer and/or your vehicle’s Manufacturer.
Owners of the recalled vehicles may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety (“NHTSA”) Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or visit the NHTSA’s Web site at http://www.nhtsa.gov.
