Among the thirteen (13) recalls the NHTSA has announced in January comes news of the following:

Logo - Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (“Volkswagen”), an Auburn Hills, Michigan establishment and subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group of Wolfsburg, Germany, has recalled an estimated 1,042 model year 2023 Volkswagen ID4 rear-wheel drive Sport Utility Vehicles (“SUVs”) marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Electrical System – 12-Volt Battery Cable may short circuit

NHTSA Safety Notification 22V956000 reports the 12-Volt Battery Charging Cable may contact the Steering Column Shaft and cause the Cable Insulation to wear, possibly resulting in a short circuit.

According to the NHTSA, a short circuit may cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results. In addition, a short circuit increases the risk of a vehicle fire, explosion, burns and/or smoke inhalation with consequential life-changing or life-ending results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

==> In addition, if you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat burns, scalds, explosive blast injury, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory and/or cardiac injury.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Volkswagen Dealers will inspect the 12-Volt Battery Charging Cable and repair or replace it, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 27, 2023. Owners may contact Volkswagen’s Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-893-5298 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) for more information. Volkswagen’s designation for this recall is 97HA.

Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures including garages, carports, covered stalls or barns until the remedy has been completed.
