Canada/Ottawa: IKEA of Sweden, Almhult, Sweden establishment, recalls an estimated 3,302 IKEA ODGER Swivel Chairs from the Canadian marketplace due to risks of suspected structural failure and component detachment hazards and consequential risks of falls, laceration, concussion, bone fractures and/or central nervous system (“CNS”) injury, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports the following Swivel Chairs are subject to this recall:
- ODGER Swivel Chairs sold in the anthracite (i.e., black) colour with a date stamp before and including 2221 (in the YYWW format), an IKEA article number of 20395270. The Chair consists of a bowl-shaped seat and rounded backrest with adjustable height and swivel and a star-shaped support base. The white version of ODGER Swivel Chair is not currently included in this recall.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.
These ODGER Swivel Chairs were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in IKEA Stores in all Canadian provinces, although it is always possible these furniture products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.
According to Health Canada, IKEA has recalled an estimated 3,302 IKEA ODGER Swivel Chairs from the Canadian marketplace due to risks of suspected structural failure and component detachment hazards. If these defect occur, they pose risks to the safety of people who utilize the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use.
As of press time, IKEA has received no reports of incidents in Canada. Worldwide, however, the company had received nineteen (19) reports of the star-shaped support base detaching, with five (5) reports of injuries from the fall.
Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled ODGER Swivel Chairs sold by IKEA, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
