Among the thirty-one (31) recalls the European Union announced in its first report of September 2022, the following recall notification was made:

Sinbo Toaster & Sandwich Maker Appliances

Sinbo branded Toaster & Sandwich Maker Appliances sold with a model designation of SSM-2550, a batch/lot number of 211103371822 and barcode/EAN of 8693807245778. This recall alert was submitted by Cyprus to the EU Safety Gateway under alert number A12/01256/22.

These Sinbo branded Toaster & Sandwich Maker Appliances were marketed, sold and delivered as consumer-grade kitchen appliances used to prepare snacks and light meals. Each of the Toaster & Sandwich Maker Appliances consists of two (2) hinged black metal heating panels that come together to conductively heat breads and other foods.

The Sinbo branded Toaster & Sandwich Maker Appliances were silver and black in color and packaged in a rectangular black cardboard box with a color picture of the product, the “CE” approval mark as well as some manufacturing information such as the product’s name and model designation can also be seen.

No manufacturing date codes, batch/lot designations, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

The hazards reported in the recalled Sinbo branded Toaster & Sandwich Maker Appliances include the report that product’s plastic casing is not sufficiently resistant to high temperatures and may catch fire and/or burn the operator. If this defect occurs, it could expose internal components that are electrically live and the operator may receive an electric shock from accessible live parts or burns when operating the appliance.

As a consequence, utilizing the recalled Sinbo branded Toaster & Sandwich Maker Appliances in a reasonable manner expected with their intended design and anticipated use could precipitate serious injury and/or life-changing health consequences.

Proposed Remedy:
Due to these defects, the recalled Sinbo branded Toaster & Sandwich Maker Appliances reportedly do not comply with the requirements of Europe’s Low Voltage Directive, nor with the European standards EN 60335-2-9 and EN 60335-1.

Consequently, a recall of these Sinbo branded Toaster & Sandwich Maker Appliances from end users within the European marketplace has been ordered. You should not market, sell or use these recalled furniture products.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Sinbo branded Toaster & Sandwich Maker Appliances, please do not use them or allow your children to play with or near them. Instead, kindly return the Kitchen Appliance to the store or online outlet where you purchased them for a refund.

If you have a medical emergency, please contact 1-1-2, your closest hospital or emergency centre equipped to properly treat burns, electric shock, electrocution, respiratory impairment and/or cardiac arrest.

Please note: 1-1-2 (also written as “112”) is the universal European emergency number you can dial free of charge from fixed and mobile phones anywhere in the EU. It will connect you to the local emergency services including police, ambulance, fire brigade.
