US/Bethesda & Canada/Ottawa: Aesop USA Inc., a New York, New York establishment and Aesop Canada Inc, a Vancouver. British Columbia establishment, recall an estimated total 176,200 of Aesop branded Bathroom Deodorizing Drops and Oil Burner Blends (approximately 154,300 in the US and approximately 21,900 in Canada) from the American and Canadian marketplaces due to suspected failure to meet US and Canadian child resistant closure requirements under the US Poison Prevention Packaging Act as well as Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.
In addition, the recalled products reportedly violates the Federal Hazardous Substances Act (FHSA) by omitting the mandatory information on the packaging with consequential risks of child poisoning, aspiration, burns, ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.
According to the CPSC, this recall was initiated because these recalled over-the-counter (“OTC”) products contain Low-Viscosity Hydrocarbons, substances that must be sold and stored in child resistant packaging as required by the US Poison Prevention Packaging Act (“PPPA”). The packaging of these recalled Aesop branded Bathroom Deodorizer products are reportedly not child resistant, posing a poisoning risk if the contents are swallowed by young children. In addition, the label on the recalled products reportedly violates the US Federal Hazardous Substances Act (“FHSA”) by omitting the mandatory information on the packaging.
These products pose risks of aspiration and internal burns if ingested. The lack of child-resistant packaging and appropriate labeling information could result in unintentional exposure to the product and lead to serious illness or injury, including death.
Please note: this is a joint recall from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) and Health Canada (“HCSC”).
Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Aesop branded Bathroom Deodorizing Drops, please do not use them. Instead, please follow these instructions:
- Contact Aesop for information on how to safely dispose of the recalled products and how to receive a full refund in the form of an Aesop digital gift card in the amount of the price of the recalled product(s).
- The gift card can be used towards the purchase of any Aesop product at any Aesop store or online at https://www.aesop.com.

Please note: if you purchased a Home Kit, a product that includes the recalled Bathroom Deodorizing Drops and two other items, you will receive a refund equivalent to the purchase price of the recalled Aesop Post-Poo Drops alone, not the entire kit. Store returns will not be accepted. You must provide proof that the recalled product is in their possession to qualify for a refund.
Disposal of this product must be in accordance with local municipal hazardous waste requirements to protect the drinking water supply and the ecosystem.
