Among the twenty-nine (29) recalls the European Union announced in its first report of August 2022, the following recall notification was made:

Olaplex branded Hair Perfector Lotion, sold with a model number of “3” in 100 ml (3.3 fluid ounce) or 250 ml (or 8.25 fluid ounce) white plastic bottles with a batch number of 0A2723-20038A19 or OC1209-20086B131 and a EAN/barcode of 89636400235 or 896364002664. This recall alert was submitted by Lithuania to the EU Safety Gateway under alert number A12/01124/22.

These Olaplex branded Hair Perfector Lotion products were marketed, sold and delivered as consumer-grade skin moisturizing cremes designed to protect and moisturize scalp hair against day-to-day wear.

No best-before date codes, model numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

The hazards reported in the recalled Olaplex branded Hair Perfector Lotions include the report that the products contain the chemical Butylphenyl Methylpropional (“BMHCA”). Butylphenyl Methylpropional is forbidden in cosmetic products available for sale and/or distribution in the European Community. BMHCA may harm the reproductive system, may harm the health of unborn children and may cause skin sensitisation.

As a consequence, utilizing these products in a reasonable manner expected with their intended design and anticipated use could precipitate serious injury and/or life-changing health consequences.

Proposed Remedy:
Due to these defects, the recalled Olaplex branded Hair Perfector Lotion products reportedly do not comply with Europe’s Cosmetic Products Regulation.

Consequently, a recall of these Hair Moisturizing products from end users within the European marketplace has been ordered. You should not market, sell or use these recalled Cosmetics.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Olaplex branded Hair Perfector Lotion products, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store or online outlet where you purchased them for a refund.

If you have a medical emergency, please contact 1-1-2, your closest hospital or emergency centre equipped to properly treat Anaphylaxis, respiratory impairment and/or cardiac injury.

Please note: 1-1-2 (also written as “112”) is the universal European emergency number you can dial free of charge from fixed and mobile phones anywhere in the EU. It will connect you to the local emergency services including police, ambulance, fire brigade. National emergency numbers are still in use too, alongside 1-1-2. but 1-1-2 is the only number you can use to access the emergency services in all EU countries.
