Ofesta branded Barcelona Electric Steam Kettle products, sold with a model number of WK 226, a product number of 3801023 (v01), a batch/lot of 20512504 and an EAN/barcode of 5060337470254. This recall alert was submitted by Latvia to the EU Safety Gateway under alert number A11/00079/22.

These Ofesta branded Barcelona Electric Steam Kettles were marketed, sold and delivered as consumer-grade appliances designed to heat small quantities of water for coffee, tea, soups and other beverages and/or foods. The Steam Kettles were manufactured as a white plastic electric countertop appliance with a protection rating of Class II. Each Kettle comes with a power cord, rated at 220-240 volts at 50/60Hz and draws between 1000 and 1200 watts with a water capacity of 1.0 liters. Each Kettle was packed in a red cardboard box with a full color picture of the product.

No manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

The hazards reported in the recalled Ofesta branded Barcelona Electric Steam Kettle products include the report that the Power Connector joining the Power Cord and the Kettle itself is not appropriate for use in an Electric Kettle, resulting in overheating during boiling operations or possibly, even on stand-by whilst plugged into the AC mains. In addition, the non-metallic parts of the Kettles are not sufficiently resistant to ignition and/or fire, thereby increasing the risks of fire, smoke inhalation, respiratory collapse and/or cardiac arrest.

In addition, due to these reported defects, an operator may touch Kettle components that are electrically energized and/or overheated where the insulation has been damaged. If this defect occurs, the operator may receive an electric shock and/or burns.

As a consequence, utilizing these products in a reasonable manner expected with their intended design and anticipated use could precipitate serious injury and/or life-changing health consequences.
