US FlagUS/Silver Spring: A&M Farms, a Lyons, Georgia establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Whole Vidalia Onions sold at Publix and Wegmans from the American marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination and consequential risks of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death. In addition, the recalled Whole Vidalia Onions were reportedly shipped to Sam’s Club’s stores but pulled from shelves before distribution.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Whole Vidalia Onions are subject to this recall:

  • Little Bear branded Vidalia Sweet Onions sold by the pound with a PLU of 4159 and sold in stores June 23 and 24 from Wegman’s Rochester, New York-area stores, two Pennsylvania locations and Massachusetts stores
  • Little Bear branded Vidalia Sweet Onions sold by the pound with a PLU of 4159 and sold in stores June 22 to 24, 2022 from Publix stores in Florida and in the following South Georgia counties: Barrow, Clarke, DeKalb, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Jackson, Oconee and Walton.
  • Why FFA Matters branded Vidalia Sweet Onions, sold in 6-pound bags with a batch/lot of CHW032A, a UPC of 026303610067 and shipped to DC on June 21, 2022. These products were shipped to Sam’s Club’s distribution center in North Carolina. According to Sam’s, all recalled Onions were destroyed and unavailable for sale to consumers. This claim has not been independently verified.

Logo - Publix==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Whole Vidalia Onions were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the US states of Florida, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, South Georgia, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Logo - WegmansAccording to the FDA, A&M Farms has recalled certain batch/lots of Whole Vidalia Onions sold at Publix and Wegmans from the American marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Whole Vidalia Onion products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Whole Vidalia Onions, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Onions to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Listeriosis.
