UK FlagUK/London: Waitrose & Partners, a London, England establishment and a subsidiary of the John Lewis Partnership of Bracknell, Berkshire, recalls certain batch/lots of Waitrose Essential branded Frozen Cooked King Prawns and Waitrose branded Frozen Cooked & Peeled Jumbo King Prawns products from the British marketplace because they may contain raw, uncooked Prawns and pose consequential risks of bacterial and/or viral infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

The UK Food Standards Agency (“FSA”) reports the following Frozen Cooked Seafood products are subject to recall

  • Waitrose Frozen Cooked & Peeled Jumbo King Prawns, sold in 200 gram plastic bags with a batch/lot code of VN394 and all date codes up to and including the end of June 2023
  • Waitrose Essential Frozen Cooked King Prawns, sold in 200 gram plastic bags with a batch/lot code of VN394 and all date codes up to and including the end of February 2024

==> No barcodes, EANs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FSA, Waitrose & Partners has recalled certain batch/lots of Waitrose Essential branded Frozen Cooked King Prawns and Waitrose branded Frozen Cooked & Peeled Jumbo King Prawns products from the British marketplace because they may contain raw, uncooked Prawns. As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Frozen Cooked Seafood products identified above.

==> For information about Botulism, E. Coli Poisoning, Listeriosis (Listeria poisoning) or Salmonellosis (Salmonella poisoning), please consult the “Illnesses” tab on this site, located at the top of this page.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Waitrose branded Frozen Cooked Prawns, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Seafood to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-9-9, your closest hospital A&E or emergency centre equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Botulism, E. Coli, Listeriosis or Salmonellosis.
