Canada/Ottawa: Logo - Irene's BakeryIrene’s Bakery, a Victoria, British Columbia establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Ginger Cookies and Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected metal fragment contamination and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and sepsis, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Ginger Cookies and Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies are subject to this recall:

  • Irene’s Bakery branded Ginger Cookies, sold in eight (8) cookie packages with a best-before date code of 2022.JN.16, a batch/lot of 006045 and a UPC of 0 624461 11117 6
  • Irene’s Bakery branded Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies, sold in eight (8) cookie packages with a best-before date code of 2022.JN.16, a batch/lot of 005046 and a UPC of 0 624461 11115 2
  • Unbranded Ginger Cookies, sold in one (1) cookie packages
  • Unbranded Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie, sold in one (1) cookie packages

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed for some products in this recall notification.

These Ginger Cookies and Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian province of British Columbia, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, Irene’s Bakery has recalled certain batch/lots of Ginger Cookies and Oatmeal Choc Chip Cookies from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected metal fragment contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Baked Goods identified above.

In general, if glass, plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Ginger Cookies and Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and sepsis.
