Vehicle Recall: Sheppard Steering Gears

Among the sixty-two (62) recalls the NHTSA has announced this June comes news of the following:

Logo - R.H. Sheppard Co., Inc.R.H. Sheppard Co., Inc., (“Sheppard”), an Elyria, Ontario establishment and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC and a member of Knorr-Bremse has recalled an estimated 105,271 Sheppard branded Steering Gears, model numbers: HD94E, M100P, M110P, HD94P, XD120P, MD83P, SD110P, M83P, M90P and M80P marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Steering – Steering Gear assembled incorrectly

NHTSA Safety Notification 22E047000 reports the Steering Gears may have been assembled incorrectly. If this defect occurs, it could cause the Gear to fracture.

According to the NHTSA, a fractured Steering Gear can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

Proposed Remedy:
The remedy is currently under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 15, 2022. Owners may contact R.H. Sheppard by e-mail at Steering22@RH-Sheppard.com for more information. No manufacturer’s designation was listed for this recall at press time.

Due to the fact that these Steering Gear products are OEM parts, you may not be aware your vehicle has been equipped with one. When in doubt, please consult your Owners Manual, your authorized Dealer and/or your vehicle’s Manufacturer.
