US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Deskins Candies, a Bluefield, West Virginia establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Deskins Candies Peanut Butter Fudge, Deskins Candies Peanut Butter No-Bake, Deskins Candies Peanut Butter Pinwheel and Deskins Candies Chocolate No-Bake Confectionery products from the American marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Confectionery products are subject to this recall:

  • Peanut Butter Fudge, sold in 16-ounce clear plastic clamshells with an expiration date code of 6/26 and a UPC of 7 33980 12311 7
  • Peanut Butter No Bakes, sold in 16-ounce clear plastic clamshells with an expiration date code of 6/21 and a UPC of 7 33980 12331 7
  • Peanut Butter Pinwheel, sold in 16-ounce clear plastic clamshells with an expiration date code of 6/16 and a UPC of 7 33980 12314 7
  • Chocolate No Bakes, sold in 16-ounce clear plastic clamshells with an expiration date code of 6/26 and a UPC of 7 33980 12334 7

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Deskins Candies Peanut Butter Fudge, Deskins Candies Peanut Butter No-Bakes, Deskins Candies Peanut Butter Pinwheels and Deskins Candies Chocolate No-Bakes were known to be marketed, distributed and sold from the following locations:

  • Goodsons Supermarket in West Virginia
  • Grants Supermarket in Virginia and West Virginia
  • Kroger Salem in Virginia
  • Merchants Distributor Inc Hickory in North Carolina

It is always possible, however, these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the FDA, Deskins Candies has recalled certain batch/lots of Deskins Candies Confectionery products from the American marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Baked Goods identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

This recall was initiated as a result of the J.M. Smucker Co recall of certain batch/lots of Jif Peanut Butter, a product used in the production of the Deskins Candies product identified above. The Peanut Butter ingredient was recalled by its manufacturer, J.M. Smucker, on or about May 20, 2022, due to suspected Salmonella contamination. Deskins Candies has reportedly ceased production of these items and destroyed all products containing the Jif Peanut Butter items subject to this recall.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Deskins Candies Peanut Butter Fudge, Deskins Candies Peanut Butter No-Bake, Deskins Candies Peanut Butter Pinwheel and Deskins Candies Chocolate No-Bake, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Confectionery products to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Salmonellosis.
