US FlagUS/Washington: Smithfield Packaged Meats Corp., a Sioux Center, Iowa establishment, recalls an estimated 185,610 pounds of Golden Crisp, Member’s Mark and Smithfield branded Bacon Toppings from the American marketplace due to suspected metal fragment contamination and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and sepsis, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Bacon Topping products are subject to this recall:

  • Golden Crisp Patrick Cudahy Fully Cooked Bacon Topping Applewood Smoked, sold in five (5)-pound packages with a SKU of 43200 12003 with a batch/lot code of 2063 or 2064
  • Golden Crisp Patrick Cudahy Precooked Bacon Topping, sold in five (5)-pound packages with a SKU of 43200 12002 with a batch/lot code of 2054, 2062 or 2063
  • Member’s Mark Fully Cooked Bacon Crumbles, sold in five (5)-pound packages with a SKU of 78742240923 with a batch/lot code of 2022-11-18
  • Smithfield Fully Cooked Bacon Topping, sold in five (5)-pound packages with a SKU of 43200 12663 with a batch/lot code of 2064
  • Smithfield Precooked Bacon Topping, sold in five (5)-pound packages with a SKU of 43200 12003 with a batch/lot code of 2063 or 2064

==> No barcodes, UPCs, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. Additional images of the recalled Bacon Topping products can be found on the Web site above.

These Bacon Topping products may have been marketed, distributed and sold in all US states, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

The Bacon products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 27384” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

According to the USDA, Smithfield Packaged Meats has recalled an estimated 185,610 pounds certain batch/lots of Golden Crisp, Member’s Mark and Smithfield branded Bacon Toppings from the American marketplace due to suspected metal fragment contamination. As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Bacon Topping products identified above.

In general, if glass, plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Golden Crisp, Member’s Mark and Smithfield branded Bacon Toppings, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and sepsis.
