US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Taharka Brothers Ice Cream, a Baltimore, Maryland establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Taharka Brothers Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream containing Jif Peanut Butter from the American marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Ice Cream products are subject to this recall:

  • Taharka Brothers Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream, packaged in two (2) sizes:
    • 16-ounce pint white containers with a stylized design of peanut butter cups with a barcode of 38455-78827
    • 2.5 gallon brown, rectangular containers, with a white sticker label reading “Peanut Butter Cup”

Both sizes of the Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream products were distributed between the dates of 03/01/2022 (i.e., March 1, 2022) and 05/28/2022 (that is, May 28, 2022) through grocery stores, scoop shops, restaurants and direct to consumer delivery.

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Ice Cream products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the US state of Maryland and the District of Columbia, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the FDA, Taharka Brothers Ice Cream has recalled certain batch/lots of Taharka Brothers Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream from the American marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Ice Cream products identified above.

This recall was initiated after the potential for contamination in these Ice Cream products was noted after routine testing by ingredient supplier J. M. Smucker Co. found the presence of Salmonella in some of their peanut butter products, specifically Jo. J. M. Smucker Co. branded Peanut Butter was used in the production of the recalled Taharka Brothers’ Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream until 05/28/2022 and distributed to multiple retailers including the following:

  • Streets Market
  • Eddies of Roland Park
  • Graul’s Market
  • Green Valley Marketplace
  • Good Food Markets Santoni’s
  • Geresbecks

This product, and others like it, contain a primary ingredient that has been recalled by its manufacturer, The J. M. Smucker Co., as part of its North American recall involving various types, varieties and serving sizes of Jif branded Peanut Butter.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Taharka Brothers Ice Cream products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Ice Cream to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
