Giant Eagle Bakery Items [US]


US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Logo - Giant Eagle Inc., a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania establishment, recalls multiple Bakery Items containing Jif Peanut Butter sold at three (3) Pennsylvania supermarkets due to Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Bakery Items are subject to this recall:

  • Giant Eagle Bakery items, sold with a PLU of 19688, 19795, 27779, 29850, 39842, 47778, 50229, 51157, 51359, 51360 or 97655 all sold in plastic clamshell containers with sell-by dates through May 28, 2022

==> No barcodes, UPCs, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Bakery Items were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the US state of Pennsylvania although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the FDA, Giant Eagle has recalled multiple Bakery Items containing Jif Peanut Butter. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Bakery Items identified above.

This recall was initiated after Giant Eagle was made aware of the recently announced nationwide Jif branded Peanut Butter recall from the J.M Smucker Company. The peanut butter included in the recalled Giant Eagle Bakery Items is included in the Jif Peanut Butter recall.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the Giant Eagle Bakery Items, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Bakery Items to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Salmonellosis.
