Among the seventy-four (74) recalls the NHTSA has announced this May comes news of the following:

Logo - Hyundai Motor AmericaHyundai Motor America (“Hyundai”), a Fountain Valley, California establishment and a subsidiary of Hyundai Motors of Seoul, South Korea, has recalled an estimated 239,000 model year 2019-2022 Hyundai Accent, 2021-2023 Hyundai Elantra and 2021-2022 Hyundai Elantra HEV Sedans marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Seat Belts – Seat Belt Pretensioners may explode

NHTSA Safety Notification 22V354000 reports in the event of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event, the front driver-side and/or passenger-side seat belt pretensioners may explode upon deployment.

According to the NHTSA, an exploding Seat Belt Pretensioner can project metal fragments into the vehicle, strike vehicle occupants and result in serious injury and/or life-changing results.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Hyundai Dealers will secure the Seat Belt Pretensioner(s) with a cap, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 15, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai Customer Service toll-free at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai’s designation for this recall is 229.

This recall expands and replaces NHTSA recalls 21V-796, 22V-069, 22V-218 and 22V-123 for Hyundai Accent, Elantra, and Elantra HEV vehicles. All Accent, Elantra and Elantra HEV vehicles already repaired under the previous recalls will need to have the new remedy completed.
