Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: Ensign Laboratories Pty Ltd, a Springvale, Victoria establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of 2XP SPF50+ Bronze Protect Sunscreen Lotion products from the Australian marketplace due to reported elevated levels of Benzene and consequential risks of Cancers of the Blood and Blood-Forming Tissues, including the Bone Marrow and the Lymphatic System including Leukemia, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-changing injury.

Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Sunscreen Lotion products are subject to this recall:

  • 2XP SPF50+ Bronze Protect Sunscreen products, sold in 70 ml bottles with a batch/lot number of 1102889, an expiry date code of 01/2024 and a regulator designation of ARTG 294158

==> No barcodes, APNs, DINs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Sunscreen Lotion products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold from Coles and Hawthorn East stores in Victoria, although it is always possible these Sunscreen Lotion products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the ACCC, Ensign Laboratories Pty has recalled certain batch/lots of 2XP SPF50+ Bronze Protect Sunscreen Lotion products from the Australian marketplace due to reported elevated levels of Benzene, a substance that may pose a risks to the health of people who utilize the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use.

As a direct result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Sunscreen Lotion Spray products identified above.

Benzene is classified as a human carcinogen. Exposure to benzene can occur by inhalation, orally, and through the skin and it can result in Cancers including Leukemia and Blood Cancer of the Bone Marrow and Blood Disorders which can be life-threatening.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm drug poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any drug, return it to your retailer for refund, making sure pets and small children can’t access the suspect product.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Sunscreen Lotion products, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund. You can also contact Heritage Brands Customer Service to request a refund, and then dispose of the products.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat Benzene contamination.
