US FlagUS/Washington: The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”), a statutory regulatory and food safety authority, issues formal a Public Health Alert for certain batch/lots of Organic Rancher branded Organic Ground Beef products from the American marketplace due to suspected plastic fragment contamination and consequential risks of risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Organic Ground Beef products were produced on or about April 20, 2022 and are subject to this warming:

  • Organic Rancher branded Organic Ground Beef 93% Lean 7% Fat, sold in 16-ounce vacuum-sealed packages with a use-by date of 5-18-2022
  • Organic Rancher branded Organic Ground Beef 85% Lean 15% Fat, sold in 16-ounce vacuum-sealed packages with a use-by date of 5-18-2022

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the USDA, its Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) has issued a formal Public Health Alert for certain batch/lots of Organic Rancher branded Organic Ground Beef due to suspected plastic fragment contamination.

The products are from various establishments and bear establishment number “EST. 4027” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

These Organic Rancher branded Organic Ground Beef products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold from Whole Foods Market locations US nationwide, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the USDA, its Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) has issued a formal Public Health Alert for Organic Rancher branded Organic Ground Beef products due to suspected plastic fragment contamination. As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Ground Beef products identified above.

This Public Health Alert was initiated after the firm received complaints from consumers reporting they found hard, rigid plastic in the the company’s Organic Ground Beef products. The firm then notified the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) of the issue.

Please note: while these food products may be close to or past their use-by dates, they may be in your freezers or storage chillers. If you have purchased these products during the period ranging from April 1, 2022 to May 16, 2022, please check your refrigerators, chillers and/or freezers to ensure these food products have not been stored for future consumption. If found, these products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for refund.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Organic Ground Beef products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
